She must surely know
how lucky she is
living the good life
with him in show biz
his reputation

no airs and graces
put on to impress —
posh voice, straight laces
what you see’s an act
of calculation

it’s this disarming
lack of pretension
makes him a treasure
of our small nation
no hesitation

he’s smart and funny
modestly well-read
hits the chosen nail
squarely on the head
sheer inspiration

And as for his wife
she alone knows what
the true story is
the husband she’s got’s
a revelation
