Writing By Numbers (Poetry)

Pick a random word —
any word will do
choose a clever rhyme
plucked out of the blue
some quill feather fine

Take care to weigh up
the syllable count
while letters might seem
sufficient amount
there’s more to the scheme

Writing by numbers
requires its own skill
honed to perfection
and worked on until
no more correction

is needed but still
the sum of the parts
might not prove enough
the artist then starts
to polish and buff

interprets the theme
shines layers of light
still searching for proof
once meaning fits right
words echo their truth
